I don't typically post about a piece of media currently, but I figured I enjoy this enough to talk about it.
Lately, I got reminded of the channel Product and have been rewatching some of the videos. They're genuinely wonderful and just absolute works of art! The topics addressed in them are very heavy, but oddly, the way CSA is used in them just... doesn't trigger me too badly. Don't get me wrong, of course, I do feel uncomfortable watching the scenes related to it, but the way it's handled is just the right way it doesn't hurt too much.
The video ??? is a great example of that. It very heavily implies the topic, but the woman's words—"you're not dead, you're just purple"—settle so nicely for me. My personal favorite of the stories is Dirty Donna. It's very dark and handles topics of addiction and murder, but the hopeful ending is incredibly powerful, especially in a world where hopeful endings are so rare. The Alice story is viscerally uncomfortable in many parts, but it's difficult not to feel some sympathy for Mother by the end. She's a monster, but she's also been hurt.
I feel that the cycle of abuse is so rarely handled this well. We often are aware that "hurt people hurt people," but a lot of more popular media tries to use that to make you want to forgive the villains. In these stories, you're not meant to forgive people. The only people who aren't absolute monsters are the children (with some... notable exceptions).
And apparently, these have been all but entirely made in CapCut. It's just... insane! Wonderful!! I never would've thought that was possible!
The perfectly uncanny way everyone speaks and moves is so... I don't know the word. It's good though! I cannot recommend this channel enough. Just tread carefully and take care of yourself! ^^
